Sunrise on a fine frosty morning

Sunrise on a fine frosty morning

We are still having relatively mild weather, no snow, little sun but usually pleasant enough and it often allows us to get a lot done when we can find the time to do it. We are finishing up getting water to Aerron and Maggies yurt, the paving stones on the driveway are getting placed very slowly though we have them down on the two spots where they were needed most and they are doing the job that we envisioned that they would do. We have made several trips, by car and by horse and wagon, to our neighbours about a mile down the road where we have been cutting out some small trees for them and bringing back the wood for firewood. We have been cutting and splitting firewood every day and this will likely continue on throughout the heating season as we did no preparation at all during the summer. Dealing with the drought took all of our extra time.

Well, the winter solstice has come and we are now on that long ascent to spring … so much to do so little time. We have been studying seed cataloques for some time but we still have not inventoried our seeds. There are many things that we would like to have growing in the garden but we have to watch our budget and we only have so much space. There are a lot of very interesting and different vegetables that we should try. Some of them could be very useful and popular with many, some just wouldn’t work under our conditions. We will not know what  will or won’t work though unless we give it a try. The other thing we need to keep in mind is that new stuff will demand more time of us and during the growing seson time for us is at a premium. It is all great challenging fun.

Here are several photos taken over the last  two weeks, hopefully they will all appear where I want them and that all the captions will be there.

Happy holidays to everyone and may you prosper in the New Year.
